Our most favorite lantern and an excellent source of light for apartments, houses, and shelters. The Goal Zero Lighthouse 400 Lantern is small, solar powered, and bright enough to light sizable patches of the outside. It also acts as a power port to recharge cell phones, and there’s even a hand crank to get things going if the batteries are dead. If you want one light to illuminate a room in your house for a long time, this is it.

WHERE TO BUY
Bottom line: Buy this lantern. When the lights go out at home, you'll be glad to have it (or, better, them).
Recommended for: All shelters (Home/Away).
No. of units recommended: We recommend 2 to 3 in each shelter — these would be a primary source of light.
You’ll also need: Goal Zero also sells separate solar panels of varying sizes and prices. Worthwhile.
It's the little stuff with this solar light we like best. The hand crank, the stand that folds into the body. You can even charge up a cell phone with it. Solar-powered lights sound a bit counterintuitive, but in fact they are brilliant. There's no better renewable source of energy than the sun, after all. We've been using Goal Zero products since they started out in Utah, and their products are consistently on point.
